ALFREDO RODRIGUEZ
From: Cuba
On stage: Fri 10 Apr 21:50
Born and raised in Havana, Cuba, in a family of musicians—his father was a popular singer and television host—Alfredo Rodriguez was a child prodigy who studied classical piano at the prestigious Amadeo Roldán Conservatory and the Instituto Superior de Arte, while also playing popular music at night in his father's orchestra. During a performance at the Montreux Jazz Festival in 2006, he was discovered by who would become his mentor and producer, the legendary Quincy Jones.
Since then, Rodriguez has achieved remarkable milestones: he has performed on the most prestigious stages in more than 100 countries and was nominated for the GRAMMY® Awards for his music "Guantanamera", from the album The Invasion Parade.
Beyond his successes, Rodriguez's ability to "tell stories" on the piano allows him to touch his audience in a deeply personal way. His albums, including Coral Way, Tocororo, and Duologue, reflect his memories of Cuba, his experience as an immigrant, and his journey of introspection through music. He has been honored by All Things Considered, Downbeat, The New York Times, Los Angeles Times, and The Wall Street Journal, and performed at NPR Music's famous Tiny Desk Concert.
Rodriguez continues to share his music and his message of perseverance and intercultural unity on his international tours. His viral performances, revisiting iconic songs in a Cuban timba style, inspired his new studio album "¡Take Cover!", released on January 23, 2026, featuring Alain Pérez, Al2 El Aldeano, and Pedrito Martínez.
