After its launch in April 2009, the Kriol Jazz Festival - Praia is back for another edition at 9 and April 10, 2010 in Praia, Cape Verde.

Discover our selection of artists from the Creole World for a musical and human exchange.

In 2010, the Festival pays tribute to American composer and pianist Horace Silver, co-founder of the hard bop movement in the 50s, the icon of legendary label Blue Note, a jazz giant, a sacred monster whose songs "Capeverdean Blues" and "Song to my Father" demonstrate its commitment to Cape Verde where his father was born ...

Coming from the West Indies, Reunion, South Africa, the USA, Senegal and Guinea, the artists will meet for two days the Cape Verdean performers and composers in celebration of a special kind of jazz, the jazz Creole.

Praia is located in Santiago, the largest and most populated island of the archipelago of Cape Verde, 500 km off the coast of Senegal. Historians consider that the the first Creole language was born in this former Portuguese colony. Recently, a neighboring site has been classified as World Heritage of Humanity.
