Beyond a shadow of a doubt the talkof-the-town artist from Cape Verde
After Ora Doci Ora Margos, her debut album released in late 2015 and which garnered her recognition both in Cabo Verde and internationally, Elida Almeida, the 2015 winner of RFI’s Prix Découvertes, now brings us the EP Djunta Kudjer.
The new EP includes genres from the musical tradition in which Elida has always been immersed, imbued with pop tonalities and a Latin spirit on the track “Di Mi Ku Di Bo,” recorded in Havana in late 2016 and released as a single earlier this year.
Tabanka, a cultural expression that used satire to symbolize the struggle for independence and is now an exuberant and colorful affirmation of African identity - and whose associated rhythm is little known outside of Cabo Verde – is another genre Elida Almeida has chosen for Djunta Kudjer.
